Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) recently had 61 interns receive Full-Service Employment (FSE) offers and 25 receive apprenticeship offers to further their career.

Committed to hiring fresh, young talent and helping build the SRNS pipeline of work ready employees, the company has hosted 193 students to participate in a summer internship program – a 7.2% increase in intern hires over last year’s program participation.

Over the summer, students were able to gain experience in a variety of SRNS occupations, including: engineering, computer science, physical sciences, business services, nuclear materials control and accountability, communications, information technology and others.

A recently held signing day allowed those interns being offered FSE to celebrate with their peers, SRNS managers and mentors, while signing and accepting their position offers, according to a press release from the company.

“This year’s signing day for the interns was absolutely spectacular,” said Kedesha McClary, SRNS internship coordinator. “It’s where dreams meet determination, passion ignites purpose, and the journey towards a brighter future begins.”

The SRNS Internship Program offers opportunities for students attending two-year technical colleges, four-year colleges and universities up to the doctoral level to gain hands-on learning experiences related to their field of study.

“This day will be a reminder of the endless possibilities that await as these interns chase their ambitions with unwavering commitment and enthusiasm,” said McClary.

The goal of the internship program is to bridge the gap between academic study and its application in professional practice.

“We’re not just investing in young talent; we’re investing in the future. These bright minds will help strengthen our pipeline and drive innovation to support our missions,” said SRNS President and Chief Executive Officer Dennis Carr.

Participation in an internship offers students a glimpse into a professional work environment, while networking with professionals. Other students received offers to join the apprenticeship program, which creates qualified full-service employees trained in specific disciplines needed at SRS.

“This will not only grow our company but will also better the nation’s progress and future,” said Carr. “Their energy and fresh perspectives are the driving force that will ensure we continue to lead the industry.”
