FreshTake Grocery gearing up to open on Washington Road

Date: August 12, 2024

FreshTake, the new supermarket concept by Mitchell Grocery Corp. scion Jackson Mitchell, is gearing up to open its first location in Augusta later this month.

The new grocery store, located in the former Whole Foods building at 2907 Washington Road., has touted summer of 2024 as the time of its debut since breaking ground last November. Last month, Mitchell gave Aug. 16 as an opening date while going before the Public Services Committee to acquire the store’s alcohol license. But a recent digital billboard on the premises shows Aug. 30 as its imminent first day.

The new market is to include its own beer and wine bar, a Starbucks, a smokehouse and several fresh food shops. FreshTake is currently hiring for more than 20 positions via its website, from managers to bar tenders to pharmacy technicians. Last year, after the concept was announced, the company said it would bring some 130 new jobs to Augusta.
