The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, however, no restaurants, pools or hotels received a failing score from inspections on July 14–18.
Worst scores in this week’s health inspection
This week’s lowest health inspection score was an 80 earned by the Fat Mans Mill Cafe, located at 1450 Greene Street, Suite 600, in Augusta.
During the inspection, the inspector noted witnessing moldy food, which resulted in a nine-point deduction.
“Observed a pack of cheese containing a mold-like substance in the walk in cooler,” the report stated. “Discard. Monitor food products’ condition.”
The inspector also reported witnessing improper food storage, resulting in another nine-point reduction to the health score.
“Observed several cold held [temperature control safety] foods above 41 degrees Fahrenheit in coolers (walk in cooler, reach in cooler, and prep top cooler),” the report stated. “Monitor temperatures to ensure all cold held [temperature control safety] foods remain at or below 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Technician was called to inspect and fix coolers.
The second lowest score of the week was another 80 given to Walker Estates, located at 3731 Peach Orchard Road, in Augusta.
The inspector deducted a total of 15 points for noticing the pool’s emergency phone not operating properly.
“Observed emergency pool phone not working,” the report stated. “Observed emergency pool phone not working.”
During the inspection, the inspector deducted more points for an improper pH balance in the pool.
“Observed pH below 7.2,” the report stated. “pH needs to be from 7.2 to 7.8”
For noticing the damaged rescue equipment, the establishment lost more points.
“Observed no rope on the throw ring,” the report stated. “Must have rope 1 1/2 times width of pool.”
Following the Walker Estates’ pool inspection, the third lowest score of the week was an 81 given to Wing House, located at 11 Ellis Street, in Augusta.
The inspector deducted four points for noticing improperly stored food.
“Observed onions, shrimp, fish, chicken, and pork not covered in the coolers,” the report stated. “Store all foods covered.”
During the inspection, the inspector deducted four more points for noticing a lack of proper labeling.
“Observed all food stored without a label containing a common name, discard date, and prep date,” the report stated. “Store food with a label containing its common name and prep date to ensure food is discarded properly.”
After observing more food improperly stored, the establishment’s health inspection score lost another three points.
“Observed food stored on floor in the walk-in-cooler,” the report stated. “Store all food items at least 6 inches off of the floor.”
