Drivers in Columbia County should prepare for upcoming traffic delays as two separate construction projects bring lane closures to major roads beginning Monday, Sept. 15.

On Harlem Grovetown Road, Columbia County and Reeves Construction Company will begin shoulder work affecting the area from 0.10 miles south of Euchee Lake Drive to Verdery Pond Road.

Closures are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through Friday, Sept. 26, weather permitting, according to a press release from Columbia County.

Meanwhile, work will continue on Furys Ferry Road as contractors with E.R. Snell carry out widening efforts between Hardy McManus Road and the South Carolina state line.

Lane closures there are scheduled through Friday, Oct. 24, with daytime shifts from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and nighttime closures from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. through Oct. 20, according to a press release from Columbia County.

County officials urge drivers to slow down, follow posted signs and flaggers’ instructions, and allow extra space when passing through work zones. Commuters are also encouraged to plan alternate routes and build in additional travel time.

“If possible, please plan to take an alternate route and/or allow additional time for commuting during this timeframe,” Columbia County advised in a press release.
