Augusta Environmental Services is resuming trash collection for those whose roads are accessible.

Garbage pickup had been at a standstill since Hurricane Helene littered city streets and homes with fallen trees.

Residents should put their cans of garbage in an accessible location on the street by 7 a.m. and be aware pickup is one day behind regular schedule, according to a news brief from the city.

The pickup does not include yard waste or bulky items.

As an alternative for residents who can’t get pickup, the Augusta Commission on Monday approved allowing each household free garbage disposal at the landfill.

Each Richmond County household is allowed to take up to five bags of household waste to the landfill, located on U.S. Hwy. 1 in Blythe.

Boil water advisory remains in effect

Augusta’s boil water advisory remained in effect for all households as of late Wednesday.

The advisory was put in effect late Monday due to systemwide low pressure in the system as a result of power and treatment issues at several locations.

Residents should boil water for one minute before using it to drink, cook or brush their teeth.

All streets were listed as “boil” Wednesday on a city spreadsheet providing updates.

Potable water is available at the following sites:

  • Diamond Lakes – 4335 Windsor Spring Road
  • Blythe City Hall – 294 Church St.
  • Warren Baptist – 3203 Washington Road
  • Augusta Aquatics Center – 3157 Damascus Road
  • Southgate Plaza – 1631 Gordon Hwy.
  • The Depot – 716 Broad St.

Debris-burning ban in effect

The Augusta Fire Department has reminded the public that burning debris is prohibited.

Instead, residents should place debris such as branches or leaves on the side of the road for pickup to ensure safe removal and avoid fire hazards.
