A Thomson probation officer had sex with a parolee at least twice, leading to his arrest on Friday by the GBI, according to a press release.

Bobby Evans, 57, has been charged with two counts of sexual assault of a probationer or parolee and one count of violation of oath of officer by a public officer. He surrendered to agents of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and was booked into the McDuffie County Detention Center.

“The GBI began the investigation in July of 2022, after receiving a request concerning allegations made against Evans by one of his probationers,” a GBI press release says.

GBI Special Agent in Charge Patrick E. Morgan said the probationer was a female who had sex at least twice with Evans, a veteran officer who is married. His official title is Department of Community Supervision Officer, earning a $58,115 salary last year. Evans was indicted on the charged and had been on leave Friday when he was booked on the grand jury arrest warrants.

The GBI investigation is active and ongoing.  Once it is completed, it will be given to the Toombs Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. Evans was released from jail Friday after posting a $10,000 property bond.
