GBI brought in to investigate RCSO tasing that sent one to hospital

One person was sent to the hospital after being tased by a Richmond County Sheriff’s Deputy, according to a press release circulated on Monday, Dec. 19.

On Friday, Dec. 16 deputies responded to a disturbance on the 1900 block of George Road. According to the press release, the individual was reportedly threatening to harm his family.

Deputies made contact with the subject, but he refused to comply with the given orders. As deputies struggled to detain the subject, he was tased, leaving him unresponsive, according to the report. Deputies performed CPR until an ambulance arrived to transport the subject to Augusta University Medical Center.

Due to the nature of the incident, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested to assume the investigation. Further information will be released as the investigation proceeds.
