Two people were injured Tuesday in a shooting in Washington, Ga.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident that occurred around 1:42 p.m., September 19, 2022, near Ashley Drive and Baltimore Road in Washington.

“Once deputies arrived, they found a 2021 Honda Accord parked in the intersection of the road that had been hit by gunfire. Inside the car, deputies found Tre’Vontae Gray, 17, of Washington, who had been shot at least one time. Gray was airlifted to an Augusta area hospital where he is being treated for his injuries. Deputies later learned that a second occupant in the car, Cornelious Burley, 17, of Washington, had been taken by private vehicle to Piedmont Athens Hospital where he was treated and released for a gunshot wound,” according to a news release from the GBI.

At 1:54 p.m. the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office requested GBI assistance with the investigation, the release said.

“Preliminary information revealed that the Honda Accord and a 2007 Ford Explorer that was also found in the area at the time of shooting incident had been hit by gunfire. The occupant of the Ford Explorer was not injured during the incident,” it said.

Burley was released from the hospital and taken to the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office where he was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

“Additional arrests are expected in this investigation,” the news release said. “The investigation is ongoing.”
