The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has promoted a Columbia County native to oversee its polygraph unit.

The agency announced Friday that James Brower has been named assistant special agent in charge of the polygraph unit, headquartered in Decatur.

“Throughout his career, ASAC Brower has exemplified hard work and integrity. He carries a wealth of experience and expertise, and I know that he will have a positive impact on the polygraph unit,” GBI Director Chris Hosey said.

Brower is a native of Evans, according to a GBI statement. He joined the GBI in 2007 and was assigned to the GBI regional office in Americus. In 2017 he transferred to the polygraph unit.

Brower is a POST-certified instructor certified to teach at the GBI special agent academy and regional police academies. He serves on the executive board of the Georgia Polygraph Association and also specializes in emergency vehicle operations and use of force.
