Genghis Grill closes in Augusta Exchange after 10 years

Genghis Grill on Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway has decided to not renew its lease, leaving another opening in the Augusta Exchange shopping center.

Date: July 28, 2023

Genghis Grill is the latest tenant to abandon the Augusta Exchange shopping center after 10 years.

The Mongolian stir fry restaurant that was formerly next to Panera Bread on Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway left a note in the window saying that it had decided to not renew its lease when it ended. The signage has already been stripped from the building.

A sign in the window thanked Augustans for their support over the past decade.

“Thanks again for supporting us… it’s been an honor,” the note in the window read.

The restaurant also sent out an email to its subscribers that said, “We made the unfortunate decision to close our Augusta location due to a variety of factors after several years.”

Genghis Grill did not return a request for further explanation.

The restaurant chain was founded in 1998 in Dallas by Jeff Sinelli, who also founded Which Wich? It was later bought by Mongolian Concepts, which also owns BD’s Mongolian Grill and Flat Top Grill.

American comfort food chain O’Charley’s, down the road from where Genghis Grill was, also shuttered its doors earlier this year.

Other tenants leaving the shopping center include: David’s Bridal, Christmas Tree Shop, Bed, Bath and Beyond and buybuy Baby.

In addition, Ashley Furniture’s former spot next to Chick-fil-A is being replaced with BrandsMart, a Fort Lauderdale-based appliance and consumer electronics retailer. The new store is expected to open in September or October.

Other new tenants moving into the shopping center include Jersey Mike’s, expected to open in August, The Good Feet Store, which sells arch supports and opened earlier this summer, and Club Pilates, which plans to open in August.
