Georgia Baseball season ends with heartbreaking loss to Oklahoma State

In a NCAA Regional elimination game on Sunday, the Georgia Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker to Oklahoma State, 11-9, when the Cowboys scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning for a dramatic walk-off victory at Foley Field in Athens. The loss concluded Georgia’s season, which ended with a 43-17 record. 

The Bulldogs overcame an early 3–0 deficit to take a lead in the game, with Christian Adams and Slate Alford each hitting two home runs. Adams had four RBIs, while Alford added three, giving Georgia a 9–7 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning. The Bulldogs had a chance to pad the lead in the top of the ninth, putting runners on second and third with no outs, but Oklahoma State reliever Matt Brown then struck out three consecutive batters to end the threat.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Cowboys’ Kollin Ritchie tied the game with a two-run homer, and Brock Thompson followed with a walk-off two-run shot, securing the Cowboys’ victory and advancement in the tournament. 

Brown (1-0) earned his first win of the season for Oklahoma State. Zach Harris entered the game in the final frame and suffered the loss for the Bulldogs. 

The Bulldogs had previously lost to Duke, placing them in the elimination bracket.The Cowboys played again on Sunday night, losing to Duke, 3-2, and the Blue Devils now advance to the NCAA Super Regional.

Georgia placed four players on the 2025 NCAA Athens Regional All-Tournament Team, including pitcher Leighton Finley, infielders Christian Adams and Slate Alford, and outfielder Tre Phelps.
