Four-star Evans offensive lineman prospect Mason Short is about to bringing Part Two of his recruiting process to a close, and Alabama is not in the running.

Evans head football coach Barrett Davis broke the news via X, sharing that his highly touted rising senior will announce his commitment Friday April 5 at 9 a.m. at the Evans High School Auditorium.

Short had been a longtime commit to Alabama, but shortly after Nick Saban announced his retirement and the Crimson Tide announced former Washington Huskies coach Karen DeBoer as his successor, Short backed off his commitment and reopened his recruiting.

That led to an immediate visit from Georgia football coach Kirby Smart, as well as dozens of overtures from some of the nation’s top programs — including Alabama.

The Tide’s new regime re-offered Short a scholarship, putting them back in the hunt at least temporarily.

But when Short makes his announcement next Friday, he’ll be choosing from a top four that doesn’t include Alabama. Instead, he’ll select from Georgia, Ohio State, Clemson and Kentucky.

247sports.com has Georgia at the top of that list with both Ohio State and Clemson receiving “warm” interest from the 6-foot-5, 305-pound senior.
