With cooler weather settling in, Georgia Power is encouraging customers to take simple steps this fall to prepare their homes for the colder months and manage energy costs efficiently.
The company noted that heating can account for up to half of a typical home’s energy use during winter, meaning even small efficiency improvements can lead to noticeable savings, according to a Georgia Power press release.
Georgia Power highlighted that its residential rates have remained about 15% below the national average since 1990.
The Georgia Public Service Commission recently approved a plan to freeze the company’s base rates through 2028, excluding storm recovery costs, according to a Georgia Power press release.
The plan is expected to provide customers with long-term price stability while emphasizing energy efficiency and conservation.
To help residents save energy this season, Georgia Power shared several practical tips:
- Change air filters regularly to keep heating systems running efficiently and ensure vents remain clear.
- Seal leaks and check insulation to prevent drafts and maintain warmth.
- Set thermostats near 68 degrees for balanced comfort and cost savings. The company also recommends programmable thermostats, which can reduce energy use when homeowners are away and may qualify for up to $75 in Georgia Power rebates.
- Let in natural light during the day to warm rooms and close blinds at night to retain heat.
The company also offers programs that help customers lower their energy bills, according to a Georgia Power press release.
The Energy Assistance for Savings & Efficiency (EASE) program provides free home improvements for income-qualified households, while the Home Energy Improvement Program (HEIP) offers up to $1,250 in annual rebates covering 50% of eligible energy-saving upgrades.
