The Augusta Press takes general excellence and more in Georgia Press Association Awards

The Augusta Press celebrated winning 11 awards at the Georgia Press Association convention in Jekyll Island on Friday evening, including top division awards.

For a third consecutive year, since the newspaper’s inception in January 2021, the Georgia Press Association awarded The Augusta Press for general excellence among weekly newspapers in its division.

Winning a total of 11 awards, Executive Editor Debbie van Tuyll said she was thrilled to once again bring home top notch recognitions.

“We are so incredibly proud of all our hardworking reporters,” she said. “They work hard to provide local news that matters, and to be recognized as a staff for community service for our reporting on the Augusta land bank and winning third place for general excellence show that we’re achieving our goal.”

Awards won included:

  • Third Place for General Excellence in Division F of Weekly Newspapers
  • Overall First Place in Community Service for Weekly Newspapers
  • First Place for Breaking News Writing in Division F – Staff
  • First Place for Editorial Writing in Division C – Staff
  • First Place for Business Writing in Division F – Skyler Andrews
  • First Place for Feature Writing in Division F – Scott Hudson
  • First Place for Sports Photograph in Division F – Nathaniel Jones
  • Second Place for Education Writing in Division F –  Managing Editor Stephanie Hill
  • Second Place for Feature Writing in Division F – Liz Wright
  • Third Place for Breaking News Writing in Division F – Susan McCord
  • Third Place for Serious Column in Division F – Publisher Joe Edge
