The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, however, no restaurants or hotels were rewarded with a failing score from inspections on Nov. 4-8.
Worst scores in this week’s health inspection
This week’s lowest health inspection score was a 73 earned by the Georgia School for Innovation & the Classics, located at 5073 Storey Mill Road, in Hephzibah.
The inspector noted seeing expired buttermilk, which resulted in a four point reduction.
“Observed buttermilk stored at front service reach in cooler with expiration date of 10/5/24,” the report stated.
The inspector also witnessed pesticides stored among food, which resulted in a four point reduction for the establishment’s final score.
“Observed residential use only pesticide stored among food (Raid flying inset and Rid-A-Bug any and roach killer),” the report stated. “Contact a certified pest control operator for pest issues.”
The inspector also noted observing food being improperly stored and flies in the kitchen, in addition to soiled wiping cloths being left on countertops.
“Observed oil, apples, and chicken base stored on floor in dry storage area,” the report stated. “Observed excessive fly activity in kitchen and office within kitchen area. Determine a suitable method to deter flies from kitchen.”
Following the school’s inspection, the second lowest score of the week was a 75 given to Country Inn & Suites, located at 103 Sherwood Drive, in Augusta.
The inspector reported finding an inoperable handwashing sink, which resulted in a four point reduction, and a dishwasher missing sanitizer.
“Soap dispenser did not work at time of inspection. Dispenser should be moved to hand wash sink (was over three compartment sink),” the report stated. “Observed dishwashing without sanitizing step.”
The inspector also noted observing “potentially hazardous cold food held at greater than 41 degrees Farenheit,” which resulted in a nine point reduction.
The third lowest score of the week was a score of 76 given to the Budget Inn Express, located at 1616 Gordon Highway, Augusta.
From the inspection, the inspector docked points for noticing solid shower curtains in the bathing facilities and a lack of working vents in bathrooms.
“Clean or replace soiled shower curtains,” the report stated. “Vents in bathrooms must work.”
In addition, the inspector noted the hotel needing new mattress pads and slip resistant strips in tubs.
“Provide clean, unstained mattress pads on all beds,” the report stated.
