Georgia Tech severs ties with former Augusta Mayor Hardie Davis Jr.

Augusta Mayor Hardie Davis Jr.

Date: January 11, 2023

Former Augusta Mayor Hardie Davis Jr. is no longer an adjunct professor with Georgia Tech.

The college responded to an open records request with the following email, sent to Davis by the chair of the School of Public Policy, Cassidy Sugimoto:

“Thank you for taking the time to discuss with me on Tuesday. As I mentioned on the phone, our agreement regarding your status as Professor of the Practice in the School of Public Policy at Georgia Institute of Technology is suspended indefinitely. In time, if all ongoing investigations and ethics concerns are cleared, we can discuss a renewed relationship. Thank you for your understanding and your deep commitment to GT.”

Last year, Davis was offered an unpaid adjunct professorship with the college and the school’s website claimed that Davis would be participating in coursework in “leadership, ethical, organizational, and political skills, conflict management, project planning and management.”

Sources close to the situation say that Georgia Tech officials were unaware of the multiple investigations by the Georgia Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission as well as lawsuits filed against the former mayor when Davis was given the opportunity to work with the college.

Davis is an alumni of Georgia Tech and did not return a call for comment.
