Gov. Brian Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp were in Augusta to tour one of the area’s specialty hospitals, the Joseph M. Still Burn Center. It was the governor’s first visit to the facility.
The Kemps toured the Fred Mullins, M.D. Tower and listened to a presentation by the burn center staff.
Meeting with the media after the tour and presentation, the governor called the center an “incredible” facility and said it has a staff to match.
“Not only with the care that they are given here and the partnership with HCA and Doctors, but just the economic impact, too,” he said.
Kemp said the burn center is another example of great things available in the Augusta, including the Masters, Cyber Command and economic and recreational opportunities.

“This is twice as big as any other facility in the country. They continue to grow to provide services to the people that need them. It started here, will continue to be headquartered here, and which is another great asset for the state of Georgia,” added Kemp.
Rep. Mark Newton (R-Augusta) was also along on the governor’s visit.
“I think it’s eye-opening for him like it is for a lot of us to realize something that is national in scale is headquartered right here in Augusta,” Newton said. “When it first started here at Doctors Hospital with two beds and now 99 beds, 150,000 outpatient visits, it’s impressive that something of that size has been quietly building and growing here.”
Newton, who is a physician, said the burn center is another example of the type of medical care available in the area.
