Now that region tournaments are (for the most part) in the books, it’s time to turn the page to the Georgia High School Association state tournament.

Twenty-three boys and girls basketball teams from our Augusta-area coverage zone will tip off in first round action in their respective GHSA Classifications. Included in that number are six CSRA programs that won region tournament championships this past week and will enter state tournament action as a No. 1 seed.

This year, Grovetown boys, Burke County girls, both Cross Creek boys and girls teams, Westside boys and Butler girls won their respective region championships to earn those top seeds.

The top two seeds from each region are typically guaranteed to host first round state tournament games, which means there will still be a good number of local teams playing basketball in their home gyms at least one more time this season.

Below are the first round GHSA state tournament matchups for each team in our coverage area. First round games will be played Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 20-21. We will provide more analysis and breakdowns of each matchup over the weekend.
