Girl Scout cookie season began on Jan. 2, and booths are getting ready to appear outside of businesses across Augusta from Feb. 14 – March 9.

Augustans can expect to find their favorites – from Samoas, to Thin Mints to Adventurefuls – on most Saturdays and Sundays after the February start date.

Sisters Emma and Sadie Tennant have been Girl Scouts for five years, and shared why they believe the community should get involved with their Troop 20036, which is affiliated with Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia.

“I’ve really learned how to talk to people, and I would say I’m persuasive when it comes to convincing people what things to buy…it’s basically us learning to become an entrepreneur,” said Emma.

“Sometimes we help the community too,” she added, “and I feel like if you buy cookies, it’s just a great way to help us learn and grow and be leaders.”

The girls are new to the state from Florida. “This is our first year in Georgia, and I’m really excited,” said Sadie.

Five skills Girl Scouts aim to learn through the Cookie Program are goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics.

Both Emma and Sadie said they feel they’ve rounded out their people skills the most.

In 2023, 4,961 girls participated in the Cookie Program within the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia council, which extends from the North Georgia mountains to the Okefenokee and from the Atlantic coast to the Chattahoochee Valley.

In fact, The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the largest girl-led entrepreneurial program in the world

All money raised through cookie sales goes back to individual troops to support their mission.
