A 17-year-old student at Glenn Hills High School is facing criminal charges after allegedly attempting to strike another student with a brick during a confrontation on campus Monday morning.
Bri’ Tavia Natasha Miller was charged with simple assault and booked into the Charles B. Webster Detention Center with bond set at $1,300, according to authorities.
The incident occurred around 7:15 a.m., just before classes began. Investigators say Miller and another student, a 16-year-old female, were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated. Before the dispute turned physical, Miller reportedly pulled a brick from her backpack and threw it toward the other student, though it did not make contact.
According to police, the action was sufficient to “put [the victim] in reasonable apprehension of receiving a violent injury,” which meets the legal threshold for simple assault.
No injuries were reported, and school officials have not yet commented on the incident or any disciplinary actions taken.
In an unrelated incident last Thursday at A.R. Johnson Health Science and Engineering Magnet School, a taser was found in the possession of a student during an administrative search in their bookbag.
“At no time was the taser used or directed toward anyone, and there was no threat to student or staff safety,” Principal E.J. Sharif said in a parent letter. “The incident was addressed following our Code of Student Conduct and Discipline.”
