Two Gold Cross paramedics have been praised for jumping into quick action after responding to a patients’ cries for help at Piedmont.

This came moments after the pair had just signed over caring for a separate patient.

While many details of the incident are unavailable to protect patient privacy, it was stated that the individual was dropped at Piedmont with urgent gunshot wounds.

These two workers are Tyler Scarbary and Michael Stead who were called to Gold Cross headquarters in Martinez on Tuesday morning where they were “overwhelmed” with surprise gifts and commemorative plaques.

Passion for helping others

Scarbary said that they were just doing what they were trained to do. He added that caring for people in need is the best part of the job.

“Being able to help others on their worst days, you get to go out there and talk to them, provide care for them,” Scarbary said.

Stead said that he has always wanted to work as an EMT.

“I’ve been doing it for like, 25 years now. Just to help people, I enjoy being around people and doing what I can, you know, to help out,” Stead said.

Stead also said that one of the most rewarding parts of the job is being able to support younger individuals who are taking on emergency worker roles.

“It’s kind of a hard field to get young people into,” he said.
