Golfers prepare for final round of Augusta National Women’s Amateur
Kiara Romero of United States plays her stroke from the No. 12 tee during a practice round for the Augusta National Women's Amateur at Augusta National Golf Club, Friday, April 04, 2025
Friday was a big day for the Augusta National Women’s Amateur (ANWA) players – those who made the cut and those who didn’t – as they were able to play a practice round at the Augusta National.
There is a two-way tie for first heading into Saturday between Kiara Romero and the 2024 ANWA Champion Lottie Woad. For Romero, she said her Friday practice round went well and she enjoyed seeing the scenery on the course.
“I’m just really focusing on creating a good game plan for myself, hitting the right part of the fairway and the green, trying not to miss on the wrong sides,” Romero said.
On what it would mean to win the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, Romero said it would mean “everything” to her.
“It would be really cool to see all the hard work pay off,” Romero said. “It’s a big thing to accomplish and I know that there’s a lot of us at the top of the leaderboard, so I’m not really worried about that. I’m just going out there to play my game and have fun out there.”

For Woad, she said she is in a good mindset heading into Saturday’s final round.
“I think I’ve got a game plan for this course that I know I can play and works well,” Woad said. “I think I’m just going to feel comfortable with that and look to get off to a good start and maybe put some pressure on.”
Woad added that to win the tournament for a second year “would mean a lot.”
“This week is definitely different to last year, coming in with your expectations and stuff like that. I would be very proud with how I dealt with that if I managed to win it,” Woad said.
There is a three-way tie for third between Carla Bernat Escuder, Andrea Revuelta and Megha Ganne, who are one stroke behind Romero and Woad.
For Ganne, having experience at the Augusta National has been beneficial in preparing for the final round, but the course is still intimidating.
“I definitely have more layers of knowledge than I do from prior years, so that’s cool. But still going to go into it with the same eyes as usual tomorrow,” Ganne said.
As for what it would mean to win, Ganne said it would mean achieve a major goal.
“It’s definitely my number one golf goal since this tournament has been created,” Ganne said.
When it comes to her mindset going into the final round, Ganne said it’s a big deal and she’ll be nervous, but she’s ok with that.
“I’ve been nervous before and just embracing the feeling will help a lot,” Ganne said.
For Revuleta, she said having experience in the tournament has been beneficial because she knows the course and knows how nerves can change the game. As for her plan for Saturday, she said it’s to make the course her own.
“I feel like this is such a magical place,” Revuleta said. “I feel like you have to make it your own and you have to play with your game, what you think it is.”
Revuleta said for her the driver is important because getting the ball in the fairway and having a clear shot to the green is beneficial.
“It’s really important to be able to hit a good iron from the fairway and then stop it on the green,” Revuleta said. “The greens are amazing, it’s just so enjoyable. Just having a really nice short game can help, but tomorrow anything can happen. It’s pretty hard to say what is the actual key to this course because I think there’s no key.”
