Augusta Technical College recently held a graduation ceremony for its inaugural cohort in the Nuclear Operator Apprenticeship program. 

The program, which is a partnership between Augusta Tech and the Savannah River Site Apprenticeship School, gives students on site training along with academic coursework requirements. 

The coursework includes classes in math, physics, nuclear physics, instrumentation and controls, mechanical science and electrical science. The program is a seven months long and consists of 530 hours. The graduates are employed at Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, Operations and Savannah River Nuclear Laboratory, Operations. 

“We’ve established a fantastic partnership with Augusta Technical College, and we’re proud to celebrate the success of this inaugural cohort. The graduates have laid the groundwork for lifelong careers and this graduation marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the graduates and our regional partnerships,” said Dr. Dorian Newton, Site Training Director, Savannah River Nuclear Solutions.

“Augusta Tech is proud to partner with Savannah River National Solutions and Savannah River National Laboratory to form a pipeline of nuclear operators. This program is intense, but also life changing for these graduates. The apprenticeship program provides the practical hands on training and the academic coursework they need to not only be ready to work, but successful in their field,” said Julie Langham, Vice President for Economic Development.
