The Salvation Army is holding the grand opening of its new Salvation Army Family Store at 9 a.m. Feb. 19
It’s located at 3206 Peach Orchard Rd. next to Lowes, near the intersection with Bobby Jones Expressway.
According to a press release, snacks will be provided as part of the grand opening celebration.
Community donations of clothing, housewares and other items will be sold in the 6,000 square foot building.

In the past several years, the Salvation Army has dropped the use of the term “thrift store” in favor of “family store,” but the concept remains the same as used items are sold at a discount and 100% of the money raised goes directly back into the community.
“We are excited to open our Family Store in Augusta, it will help support the Center of Hope soup kitchen and shelter,” said Mike Thompson, the Augusta Kroc Center director.

The Salvation Army has family stores in North Augusta and Thomson, but the Augusta store, once located on Wrightsboro Road near Augusta Mall, closed in 2020.
According to Thompson, the Augusta location was badly needed as all proceeds go directly to the Salvation Army’s initiatives to battle hunger and homelessness in the CSRA.
