A Graniteville man has died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash nearly a month earlier, according to a statement from Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables.

Mark Carr, 53, passed away at 9:01 p.m. on Sunday at Wellstar MCG Health in Augusta. He had been hospitalized since April 18, when he crashed his 2011 Kawasaki motorcycle while traveling east on Sudlow Lake Road near Mustang Drive.

According to the coroner, Carr exited the right side of the road shortly before 1 a.m., striking a mailbox, a ditch, and then a concrete culvert. He was ejected from the motorcycle and transported to the hospital by emergency medical services.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.

Carr had shared his motorcycle publicly four years ago on Facebook, posting a photo of the same Kawasaki bike involved in the crash. A friend commented on the post: “You better be careful on that thang. It is nice but you better be careful. Ain’t nobody playing with you either. Period!”

Carr replied, “lol yes mom I will be careful….and thank u.”

That exchange, once a light-hearted moment between friends, has resurfaced in the wake of Carr’s passing – now reflecting the sobering risks that come with the freedom of the open road.

No further information about funeral arrangements or family has been released at this time.
