Graniteville man wanted in January homicide

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office has obtained arrest warrants for Clemente Roman Cruz, 55, of Graniteville, S.C.

Cruz is wanted for murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and grand larceny in relation to the death of of Jairo Martinez, according to an email from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 8:25 a.m., Jan. 3, deputies were called to the 213 Ascauga Lake Rd. for a wellbeing check. The homeowner told deputies that his tenant was not coming to the door and had not heard from him. When deputies went inside the home, they found a dead Hispanic male lying on the floor near the door with an apparent gunshot wound to his abdomen.

Cruz allegedly left the scene in a truck belonging to Martinez. It was later found abandoned in the Columbia area by Richland County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

 Cruz is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5-foot-4-inches tall and weighing 150 lbs. He black hair and brown eyes.

Aiken County authorities consider him armed and dangerous.
