The great-grandmother of an infant killed by a dog last year in Martinez pleaded guilty Thursday to contributing to the child’s death and possessing meth.

Midgelia Guadalupe, 57, was initially charged with second-degree murder in the death of seven-month-old Serenity Garnett.
The baby was in the Columbia Drive rental house where Guadalupe lived when the dog, an American Bulldog/Pyrenees mix, attacked her, according to previous reports.
Guadalupe was using methamphetamines while the child was in her care, and “failed to seek timely medical care,” according to her June 2022 indictment for contributing to the dependency of a minor. She had 1.5 grams of meth in her possession, court records said.
Columbia County Superior Court Judge Sheryl Jolly sentenced Guadalupe to 10 years for contributing to the dependency of a minor and three years for meth possession.
