The head girls basketball coach at Greenbrier High School was arrested Friday night after a physical altercation with her daughter at their game.

Zakeya Goldsberry was charged by school police with family violence – simple battery, a domestic violence charge usually reserved for incidents with family. The school’s press release does not say whether the student was related to Goldsberry, but the victim was confirmed as her daughter, who plays on the team.

The altercation reportedly happened at halftime, but the coach was not charged until after the game. Goldsberry was taken to the sheriff’s office and later released on bond.

“At this time, the case has been submitted to the district’s Department of Human Resources for further investigation,” the press release said. “She is currently employed with the school district as an Environmental Science Teacher and head girls basketball coach at Greenbrier High. … Safety of students and staff is top priority and the Columbia County School District does not tolerate inappropriate physical contact with students in any capacity.”
