The Greenbrier girls wrestling team defended its Georgia High School Association Area 1-AAAAA dual championship Friday night during the area duals hosted at Greenbrier Middle School.

The Lady Wolfpack did it through two dominant wins against Richmond Hill and Burke County. Greenbrier girls head coach Donell Bradley called this year’s duals title a sweet victory that proved the 2023 championship not to be a fluke.

“This entire year has been about building back to that point we were at last year and showing everyone what Greenbrier is about,” Bradley said.

The victory not only solidified the Lady Wolfpack’s second consecutive area duals championship, it also guaranteed them a spot in the GHSA Girls State Dual Championships on Jan. 26 at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton.

The Wolfpack is heading back to the state tournament with vengeance on their minds. Greenbrier competed in the first-ever GHSA girls duals wrestling tournament last year, and after a 54-30 opening loss to Jordan High School,  Greenbrier settled down and went on to win three straight duals to finish 3rd in the state.

Richmond Hill will be joining the Wolfpack in Carrolton after defeating Burke County in the true second match. The top two finishers from each area advance to the state tournament.

Greenbrier benefited from receiving the No. 1 seed in Friday’s area duals, which gave it a first round bye to await the winner of Richmond Hill and Bryan County.

Round One Results

Richmond Hill advanced to the second round by knocking off Bryan County, and in the second round is where it would face off against the Wolfpack. Following Burke County’s win over Long County the Bears were set to battle the winner of Richmond Hill and Greenbrier.
