The Greenbrier girls wrestling team came up just short in its quest to win the Georgia High School Association duals state championship, falling 49-27 to defending state champion Carrollton at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton.

The Lady Wolfpack accomplished its state runner-up appearance by first dismantling Putnam County in a 69-9 first round win, followed by a 51-27 quarterfinals victory against Lumpkin County on Friday. Saturday’s action included a 42-33 win against Jordan in the semifinals.

After keeping things close early and even leading Carrollton 21-19 through the first eight matches, the Lady Trojans went on a run of consecutive falls to pull away.

Greenbrier’s second place finish is one place better than last year’s third place result in the inaugural GHSA state championship match last year.
