*Charleston, SC* – The Augusta GreenJackets (Atlanta Braves) left the tying run on first in the ninth against the Charleston RiverDogs (Tampa Bay Rays), falling for the third time in four games this series. Charleston (19-9, 46-48) scored in three straight frames to keep Augusta at bay in the late goings, while the GreenJackets (12-16, 43-50) was left hitless from the fourth inning on.

Augusta went hitless in the first against rehabbing top prospect Ian Seymour, while Jared Johnson took the mound in the bottom of the inning for his ninth start of the year. The home RiverDogs took an early lead on RBI knocks from a pair of Ryans (Spikes and Cermak). Charleston appended another run in the second on Chandler Simpson’s infield single, while Johnson was able to cap the damage there and strand the bases loaded.

In the top of the third, Dawson Dimon lined a leadoff single before E.J. Exposito drew a walk. With two aboard and two away, Jeremy Celedonio ripped an RBI single to right field to score Dimon, before a wild pitch brought Exposito home one batter later. Jared Johnson was replaced after three innings with the score 3-2 Charleston, with 20 year old Giomar Diaz following him for his third outing of the season. The RiverDogs brought home a run against Diaz in the bottom of the fifth, snapping a 5.1 inning scoreless streak to begin his Augusta tenure.

The middle innings proved to be a yo-yo affair, with Augusta scoring runs in the sixth and seventh on a pair of RiverDogs errors to make the lead just one but with Charleston answering back with a single run in each inning five through seven. Augusta fanned 11 times to Charleston reliever Yoniel Curet while getting two runs without recording a hit. Diaz’ outing concluded after three innings, his longest of the season, before Samuel Strickland pitched the seventh and eighth for Augusta.

Matt Wyatt was able to secure the save for the RiverDogs, as Augusta’s quest for a second straight late-game comeback was fruitless, despite bringing the tying run to the plate in the ninth.

Augusta remains on the road this weekend against the Charleston RiverDogs (Tampa Bay Rays), with all games being broadcast on the GreenJackets Radio Network at bit.ly/GJRadio. They will return home on August 1st for a series with the Columbia Fireflies (Kansas City Royals)! To purchase tickets and learn more about the week’s homestand, visit https://www.milb.com/augusta/fans/gj-homestand-preview.).
