GreenJackets Corner: Tyler Matzek begins rehab and Adonai Mitchell visit planned

NORTH AUGUSTA – The Augusta GreenJackets, in conjunction with the Atlanta Braves have announced that relief pitcher, Tyler Matzek will begin his rehab assignment from a shoulder injury by joining the GreenJackets this week as they begin their homestand against the Columbia Fireflies. The left-hander has been on the 15-day injured list for the Braves since May 17 and will start his rehabilitation process in Augusta. 

Matzek was a key piece for the Braves’ bullpen during their World Series run last season by appearing 13 times in the postseason and gave up just 3 runs with 24 strikeouts in 15.2 innings including two perfect frames with four strikeouts against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 6 of the NLCS to help the Braves punch their ticket to the World Series. This will be the first Major League Rehab Assignment for the GreenJackets since their affiliation with the Atlanta Braves began last season. 

Adonai Mitchell to visit SRP Park

Adonai Mitchell will visit to SRP Park will be on Thursday, July 14 as part of Red & Black College Night at the ballpark. 

Mitchell just completed his freshman season with the Georgia Bulldogs where he helped the team win a National Championship over rival Alabama by catching a 40-yard, go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter of the title game. The wide-out caught 29 passes in 2021 with 4 touchdowns in 12 starts for the defending champs. He was one of the top wide-outs in the high school class of 2021 coming from Cane Ridge High School in Antioch, Tenn. 

“We look forward to seeing a wave of Red and Black at SRP Park for this special appearance on July 14th,” stated GreenJackets Vice President Tom Denlinger.  “Our marketing department has been busy building upon one of our best promotional calendars we’ve ever had and having the opportunity to host National Champion Adonai Mitchell will only add to the fun we have in store for Red and Black College Night at SRP Park.”  

Mitchell will throw out a Ceremonial First Pitch and have an hour and a half meet and greet session with fans at SRP Park (7:15 to 8:45 p.m.).
