CHARLESTON, S.C. –  Rain played a factor once again on Sunday as a scheduled doubleheader between the Augusta GreenJackets (3-11) and Charleston RiverDogs (7-7) was cut short as the first matchup was called in the sixth inning with Charleston being awarded the win as they were ahead 6-2 at the time of the delay. Game two never got started and has been postponed to a later date that will be made up as a doubleheader at SRP Park.

The first game of the doubleheader was resumed from where it left off on Saturday in the bottom of the second inning with the first scoring coming in the fourth as Brandon Parker knocked a two-run homer over the left-wall field to put Augusta on top 2-0.

The RiverDogs would come back and even the game in the next half-inning as Charleston produced a home run of their own on a solo blast by Willy Vasquez to make it 2-1. They’d eventually tie the game on a wild pitch to knot things up at two after four.

In the fifth, the GreenJackets would fall behind on a two-run homer by Carson Williams. A few batters later, Bobby Seymour went yard with another two-run shot to increase the Charleston lead to 6-2.

An inning later, a downpour came over Joseph P. Riley Jr. Ballpark, and the game was sent into a rain delay. The conditions never cleared where the game could resume and as a result, the GreenJackets were defeated 6-2 by the RiverDogs as the contest went long enough to be classified as a completed game.

The second game of the doubleheader has officially been postponed. With no more games scheduled to be played in Charleston this season between the two teams, the game will be made up at SRP Park in North Augusta where the RiverDogs will serve as the home team. The date of that makeup game is yet to be determined.

The GreenJackets return to SRP Park to play host to the Fredericksburg Nationals (Washington Nationals) for the first time ever starting on Tuesday, July, 17 with Ladies Night at the ballpark to go along with $2 TWOsday and First Responders Tuesday. Wednesday is highlighted by the Corona Bucket Special where fans can get a special, four-pack Corona Bucket for only $20! It’s college night, red and black on Thursday featuring a special appearance from wide receiver Adonai Mitchell in addition to Thirsty Thursday. Braves BuzzFest is a special one on Friday as Braves’ organist Matthew Kaminski will be attending and will perform throughout the evening. It’s also Cliché Christmas where we’ll celebrate the merriest holiday in the middle of July! On Saturday, it’s the 16th annual Military Appreciation Night with the White Claw Pregame Concert Series featuring Forest O’Quinn. The homestand concludes on Sunday with Dinosaur night and a Back-to-School Drive with the United Way of the CSRA!
