All healthcare workers in attendance were thanked for their services and discounts were offered on food and beverages. The team also featured individual nurses on the jumbotron answering health sciences-related pop culture questions for prizes.
The GreenJackets had their bats rolling early as Cade Bunnell and Drew Campbell both hit doubles in the first inning that garnered one run. The GreenJackets also scored in the fourth inning off a Drew Campbell solo home run.
Augusta piled on two more runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh inning, to win the game seven-three. Campbell and Bunnell proved to be the MVPs of the game, as they had a combined five RBIs through eight at bats. On the defensive end, the GreenJackets struck out a total of 17 batters, 10 of which came from Spencer Strider.

One lucky fan named Courtlyn Meyer got to partake in the fun of Augusta’s trivia games and was featured on the jumbotron. Meyer is an Augusta University graduate who will start working at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center July 19.
Meyer was able to use her knowledge of health care pop culture to correctly identify several doctors and nurses from television and was rewarded with a $50 Southbound Smokehouse gift card.
“It’s always nice to be appreciated for what you do, but for me and many other nurses, it’s not about recognition,” Meyer said. “We do what we do because we love to do it. Nurses can make such a difference to people in their time of need and in my opinion, it’s the most satisfying career you can possibly have.”
