Grovetown High School defeated Greenbrier 17-7 at the Wolfpack’s home field on Friday, Aug. 26.

The Warriors came into the game after defeating Midland Valley 43-16 last week. Greenbrier fell to Harlem 27-7 last week.

Greenbrier began the game with a good defensive stand, forcing the Warriors to a 3-and-out.

On the second play of the Wolfpack’s first offensive drive, Grovetown’s Amari Walker intercepted Greenbrier quarterback Brooks Kramer for a 75-yard defensive touchdown.

Warriors’ kicker Nathan Garza converted the extra point to make the score 7-0 with 7:47 left in the first quarter.

Greenbrier’s top talent senior Malik Leverett would go down with a injury on the very next kickoff. Leverett did not return to the game.

Grovetown forced the Wolfpack to punt on the next drive, but Greenbrier defensive back intercepted Grovetown quarterback Amare Clark, giving the Wolfpack the ball at the Warriors 36-yard-line.

Both teams stayed scoreless the entire second quarter and the Warriors led 7-0 at the half.

Grovetown extended their lead to 14-0 after Jean ran in a 20-yard touchdown, scoring the first offensive touchdown of the game with 6:46 to go in the third quarter. Garza added the extra point.

Garza extended the Warriors’ lead with a short field goal to make the score 17-7 midway through the fourth. The Grovetown defense shutdown Greenbrier to secure the win in the fourth quarter.

Grovetown (2-0) will play Thomson (1-1) at home next Friday, Sept. 2. Greenbrier (0-2) will travel to play at Evans (1-0) also next Friday.
