Grovetown defensive back reclassifies and will skip senior season

One of the area’s top athletes has decided to forgo his senior football season and will enroll early with the 2022 class at the University of Georgia. Marcus Washington Jr. announced Monday on Twitter that he will be leaving Grovetown early to begin his collegiate career. Washington announced his commitment to the University of Georgia on May 16, 2021.

Washington was a big key to Grovetown’s defense in 2021. As a junior, Washington led the team in tackles, pass deflections and fumble recoveries. Washington Jr. is no stranger to University of Georgia football as his father Marcus Washington was a stand out player at Burke County who also chose to play football at the University of Georgia under coach Mark Richt from 2005 to 2009.
