The City of Grovetown is looking for local artists.
Grovetown is planning to start a Brush the Box art program and is inviting local artists to attend an informational meeting at Liberty Park.
“We’d seen other local governments with similar programs, and one of our council members brought the idea forward at a recent council meeting,” said Grovetown Public Information Officer Jordan Johnson. “We feel this will be a great way to further beautify our community and give folks yet another reason to fall in love with our great city.”
The Greater Augusta Arts Council does a similar program called Art the Box, where local artists have created designs on traffic boxes throughout the Augusta area.

Pax Bobrow, project director for the Greater Augusta Arts Council, said the traffic signal control cabinets are a necessary infrastructure feature found all over the Augusta area. They house the electrical mechanisms to keep the traffic signals in a given intersection working properly.

“They are a fantastic space for art,” she said. “Through the Art the Box initiative, we have a process for securing permission for artists to bring the joy of their work right out into the intersections where people walk, bike and drive.”
Grovetown is now also preparing to bring more art to the city and is excited to show locals artwork to others.
“Being a local artist and having your art featured in our city is a wonderful opportunity to promote your own work, and a great way to get involved locally,” Johnson said. “We’re excited to spread the word and see what comes from this new and interesting program.”
The meeting for the Brush the Box program at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Liberty Park.
