A Grovetown man has been charged with trafficking fentanyl and dealing cocaine after a drug-fueled party turned deadly, authorities said.

Johnny Vasquez-Morales, 29, confessed to providing the drugs that killed a man and caused another man to go unconscious at his home on the 300 block of James Street, according to Police Chief Jamey Kitchens.

Grovetown police responded to the residence around 6:20 a.m. Thursday because of a medical emergency and found two men suffering from apparent overdoses. One man responded to life-saving measures with NARCAN stabilizing him.

“The second individual appeared to have been deceased for some time and did not respond to life saving measures,” Chief Kitchens said in a press release. “This individual was declared deceased by EMS personnel.”

The name of the man who died is being withheld pending notification of his family.

During the course of the investigation, police discovered that Vasquez-Morales provided the cocaine, which may have been laced with fentanyl. Officers seized narcotics at the home, and the suspect confessed to passing out the drugs to party guests the night before.

Vasquez-Morales was charged with trafficking of a Schedule II substance (Fentanyl) and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. His mugshot was not immediately available.

Once an autopsy is completed and toxicology reports are received, Investigators will be meeting with the District Attorney’s Office to discuss possible further charges, Kitchens said.

“This incident is yet another reminder of the dangers of illicit narcotics use,” Kitchens said. “We strongly discourage anyone from participating in these activities and implore those who may be battling a narcotics addiction to seek professional help or counseling.”
