A new app puts Grovetown information at residents’ fingertips.
Grovetown Public Information Officer Jordan Johnson and IT Manager David Nile introduced the new branded cellphone application at the Monday’s city council meeting.
Johnson and Nile presented a PowerPoint at the meeting to show the citizens the app’s capabilities.
“Cell phones are the future; they are only going to get stronger and more capable and popular,” Nile said. “This allows us to utilize that resource to make sure citizens can engage during work hours and get information when putting the contact with right department for emergency off work hours.”

According to Johnson and Niles, this app will be another way to access all of the city information including the city website, phone numbers, notifications and alerts, social media page, email contacts and more.
“It is our desire to make sure we configure this app to be a one stop app for anything a citizen or our staff needs when it comes to the city,” Niles said. “I am very excited and proud to be able to present this to you, it has been a long process where we have been trying to leverage technology to be able to help our citizens,”

Residents may even send pictures in the app to the county, according to Johnson. One example given was taking a picture of a pothole and sending it to officials on the app. Other tasks people can use the app for include reporting missed garbage, water sewer issues and down power lines, requesting recycle bins and paying bills.
“It will give us the ability to efficiently interact with our community,” Johnson said.
This announcement was just the beginning phase of this new app, and there was no announcement on when the app will be available. It will be available on the Apple app store as well as Google Play.
A reminder for the upcoming Grovetown job fair was also announced. The job fair will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18 at Liberty Park.
