Members of the Grovetown Planning and Community Development department hosted a meeting to receive feedback and discuss the city’s zoning code revision on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
Grovetown City Council had approved a contract for services with Kimley-Horn to help staff oversee and assist in a project to revise the city’s zoning ordinance on Aug. 8.
“A zoning code is for the people in which it is applicable to and what we are trying to do is create something that everyone can be happy and proud of moving forward,” said Grovetown Director of Planning and Community Development Ronnie Kurtz.

According to the PowerPoint shown during the meeting, the primary goals of the zoning code revision are to adopt new standards in the areas currently identified as the “City Center Districts’ that will accomplish the following:’
- Restore traditional residential zoning districts, similar to the existing R-2 and R-3 standards.
- Restore standard commercial zoning districts, with overlay standards applicable to the City’s main thoroughfares along Wrightsboro Road and Robinson Avenue.
- Modify landscaping standards to allow for removal of trees from single family lots and set minimum density standards.
- Codify density limits for multifamily and townhome developments.
“We’re going to come up with a code with a series of responses that are unique to Grovetown because there is only one Grovetown,” said Kimley-Horn Project Manager Kelley Klepper. “There is only one community we have here, there is only one set of infrastructure and community components over the fabric we see here. This is what makes the community unique and that is why you need a code that is reflective of that.”
