Grovetown varsity boys’ and girls’ basketball teams dominated Evans Friday, Feb. 4, on the Warriors home floor.
The girls played first and beatdown the Knights in the first half, not allowing a single basket and leading 51-0.
Evans scored its first two baskets late in the third quarter with points from Laila McLee and Alaysia Freeman. The Warriors went on to win the game 63-7. Keona Curtis led Grovetown in scoring with 12 points.

The Grovetown boys’ game would be a little bit tighter early, but the Warriors still held on to win 78-58. Grovetown Coach Darren Douglas spoke on his team’s performance.
“We just have to keep focus, we kept telling them not to play the score and play up to our standards,” said Douglas. “I know we can’t have a perfect game, but it doesn’t mean we can’t push for it all the time.”
The Knights scored the first basket of the night with a 3-pointer by Devin Story. Story scored all the Knights baskets in the first quarter with 11 points.
Midway through the first quarter, Grovetown went on a 12-0 run and led 18-9 after one quarter.
Grovetown continued to roll, as the Warriors would only allow six points in the second quarter and led at the half 38-17. Malik Ferguson led the Warriors in the first half with 12 points.

Evans tried to keep the game close, only getting outscored 21-18 in the third quarter. The Knights poor second quarter scoring performance held them back, as they were still down 59-35 after three quarters.
The Knights battled back in the fourth quarter, outscoring the warriors 21-19, but it would be too late as Grovetown went on to win 78-58.
Derrion Reid led the Warriors in scoring with 15 points, followed by Ferguson, who finished with 14. Evans guard Story was the leading scoring overall on the night with 17 points, all coming in the first half.
“We just want a state championship, we got to take it one at a time now, but at the end we just want to be 29-3,” said Douglas. “We have already counted out what we have to do to get there and it’s attainable, if we just keep doing what were doing a get a little bit better every day.”
Grovetown boys (21-3) next game will be at home against Lakeside at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8 with the girls playing at 6 p.m. The Evans’s boys (16-8) next game will be at home against Rockdale County (13-9) at 7 p.m. Tuesday while the girls’ game begins at 5:30 p.m.
