A 15-year-old boy has been charged after a revolver was discovered inside a bathroom at North Augusta High School on Thursday morning, according to the North Augusta Department of Public Safety.
Public Safety Officer Johnson was notified by a teacher that three students were seen running into the men’s bathroom in the English hallway shortly before the school’s daily weapons check. After the check was completed, Johnson and Assistant Principal Jackson searched the bathroom and recovered a silver revolver with a black handle.
The firearm’s serial number was run through the National Crime Information Center and was found to be clear, police said.
Three juveniles were initially detained and questioned. A fourth student was later identified based on clothing, hairstyle, and a nickname. Investigators determined that the fourth student — a 15-year-old North Augusta High School student — had been in possession of the weapon.
The teenager was charged with possession of a firearm on school property. He was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice by Officer Lebby.
No injuries were reported, and police said there is no ongoing threat to students or staff.
The North Augusta Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the incident in cooperation with school administrators.
