School police found a student with a gun following a fight Tuesday at Glenn Hills High School, authorities said.

Officers responded to the altercation and found the weapon. Principal Valeria Smith sent out a letter to parents with few details on the gun, the fight or the arrested student. She said the incident is being addressed by the School System Police and the Board of Education Code of Student Conduct and Discipline.

No adult was listed in Tuesday’s bookings at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center, suggesting the student was a juvenile.

“While this isolated incident has brought negative attention to our school community, it does not erase all the gains we have made this year and the milestones we are on track to achieve,” Smith said in the letter. “We will continue being the Glenn Hills family that comes together to accomplish greatness and excel in academics and athletics.”

She said parents and students can report any safety concerns to the school office or by calling the Richmond County School System Tip Line at 706-828-1077.
