Lyvetta Marshall has been in the business of making people look their best for a long time. She would say she’s in the business of helping people feel their best.
“Basically, I just like making people feel good I like to enhance people’s confidence, and enhancing their confidence starts with letting them know that they are special,” said Marshall.
Marshall is the proprietor of Janogan Enhancement Center of Georgia in Martinez. The center specializes in non-surgical hair replacement. Treatments include custom grafts, wigs and even low-level laser therapy. It also offers scalp analysis to check the strength of the follicles and possibly discern the source and nature of a particular client’s hair loss.

Marshall also ran her own salon, Impressions, on Wrightsboro Road. One of her current hair treatment clients, Carmen Hall, was one of her hair styling clients who has been loyal to Marshall since 1993 when she began her cosmetic career as a hairdresser.
“She has always taken good care of me,” said Hall.
Marshall’s treatment sessions with clients are precious and discreet. Clients are treated one by one and by appointment only. Marshall is the only treatment specialist.
“It found me, I didn’t find it,” she said.
Marshall’s interest in hair loss treatment began when she noticed an increase of clients experiencing hair loss.

“When I was doing hair on Broad Street, I started getting a lot of clients who had hair loss coming in off the street and needing services,” said Marshall.
Realizing the need, Marshall created her own hair loss treatment method before doing more research, then seeking education at New Concepts and the Hair Academy to be certified in hair replacement. She started Janogan in 2014, naming it after her three children, Jaden, Nolan and Logan.
Marshall notes several causes of hair loss ranging from alopecia and trichotillomania, hair glue, weaves, tracts to medications and even stress. The demographic of her clientele is varied across ages and races. She notes many millennials, including many millennial men, seek out her services. While her facility is open to everyone, she has a special spot in her heart for women clients.
“We take care of everybody else, all the time, so most of the time we’re really stressed anyway,” said Marshall. “So you come in here this is your time to let me take care of you.”
Marshall is serious about imparting knowledge along with treatment. She emphasizes the education she acquired in developing the business in her approach to her work and her philosophy behind her business. Education about scalp care and hair loss is actually among the services Janogan offers. That education is paramount to Marshall’s overall aim as an entrepreneur to enhance.
“It opens their eyes because a lot of people don’t even think about it,” she said. “Stress is one of the key factors with alopecia. A lot of people don’t realize how stressed they are on their jobs but most of the time you can tell.”

Sessions at Janogan are precious and discreet. Marshall follows HIPAA regulations, and everything between her and her clients is confidential.
“This is a private service,” she said. “Some people’s husbands or wives don’t even know that they have a piece. That’s how serious it is.”
Marshall designed the facility’s logo, a blue silhouette of a face turned to the right, with a tree growing inside the face and a cross inside the tree. This insignia represents Marshall’s fundamental aim in providing her service and in her life.
“The tree is knowledge, the cross is faith and encouragement and the face to the right is confidence. I’m bringing all that to you,” she said. “Education and encouragement.”

Marshall expresses a joyful mission that has not fundamentally changed since she started doing hair in the 90s. She’s in the business of enhancement, not just of looks but of sense of self.
“I’m about making people feel good, feel confident with who they are,” she said. “With hair replacement it’s not a sale, it’s an investment. you’re investing in your confidence, in you coming back to who you used to be.”
