Harlem City Council members approved to close the water sewer fund and transfer the financial resources to the general fund at Monday’s council meeting.
In July 2021, the City of Harlem entered into an intergovernmental agreement with Columbia County for the purchase of the city water distribution and wastewater collection system.
According to the resolution document from the city of Harlem, the total funding available in the water and sewer fund as of Aug. 31 was $7,529,435.52, which consists of the proceeds from the sale of the system and the balance in the water and sewer system operating account and any interest received.

These funds now available will be used towards current and future capital projects. The projects include the public works facilities project, an amount up to $400,000 for the completion of Phase I of the Sandy Run Creek Trail, an estimated amount of $1.5 million for the proposed multi-purpose park.
The city council also approved a proclamation to declare Sept. 17, 2022 as Ray Fulcher Day. Fulcher is country artist from Harlem and held free concert in the city on Saturday, Sept. 17.
Harlem City Hall will be closed Friday as the city prepares for the upcoming Oliver Hardy Festival.
