Harlem High School administration and police respond to threat written on restroom wall

A threat written on a restroom wall has urged Harlem High School toward caution, the Columbia County School District notified to parents on Thursday.

According to a letter issued by Principal Casey Dees, school administration and Columbia County School District Police investigated a threat written on a student restroom.

“At this time, we do not believe the threat to be credible,” said Dees in the letter released to parents, noting that as such school operations continued as normal. “However, out of an abundance of caution, we will have an increased presence of law enforcement on campus as the investigation continues.”

The letter goes on to stress that all responsible parties will be held legally accountable, as well as answerable to the code of conduct. The letter also urges parents to speak with their children regarding the potential consequences of making written or verbal threats, including removal from school and even criminal charges.

Students are urged to report any suspicious behavior to any adult, school administrator, school resource officer, or via the Columbia County District Anonymous Tip Line at 706-541-3600. The public is encouraged to contact the main office at Harlem High School with any questions.
