Harlem Pharmacy will be closing this month, the shop announced in a social media post on Monday.
According to a post displayed on the store’s Facebook page at about 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, Harlem Pharmacy, which first opened in June of 2019, will be permanently closing its doors on Dec. 20.
The message attributes the decision to close on a sharp drop in insurance reimbursements accompanied by a rise in pharmacy fees and expenses, before expressing gratitude to local customers for loyal patronage.
Neighbors of the downtown Harlem drug took to Facebook as well to share their sadness amid the news. Harlem Family Dental noted that rising costs and decreasing reimbursement rates “are struggles many local healthcare providers are facing.”
“There is so much going on behind the scenes in a small business that most people never see,” posted nearby café Harlem Java House, also highlighting financial struggles of small businesses, amid urging the community to spend money locally and giving well wishes to Kyle and Debbie Pulliam, the owners of Harlem Pharmacy. “Decisions, sacrifices, long nights, and deep care for the people they serve. These places are built by people who want to show up for their neighbors.”
In keeping with the customer service the shop became renowned for in the community, Harlem Pharmacy will continue to fulfill prescriptions for its patrons until closing, and transfer them to another pharmacy of their customers’ choosing.
Harlem Pharmacy is located at 170 Milledgeville Road.\ in downtown Harlem.
