The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, and one restaurant did receive a failing score in their recent health inspection from July 29-Aug. 2.
Worst scores in this week’s health inspection
Taqueria El Patron, 3107 Washington Road, Augusta received a failing score of 56. Inspector’s comments included: “observed raw shrimp stored next to cooked hot dogs” and “observed shrimp in its own liquids uncovered and able to spill from its own container to other open containers holding cooked hot dogs, raw chicken, and raw pork.”
Other comments included: “observed cook in kitchen handle cell phone and continue food prep without washing hands and putting on gloves,” “observed employee improperly drinking during food prep,” “observed cup with no lid being stored above steam table,” “observed excessive build-up in ice machine,” “observed pork, sour cream, beef, and radishes without any labeling in RIC under prep top,” “observed tamales with a use by date of 7/27/24, ribeyes with a use by date of 7/19/24, and higado with a use by date of 4/12/24,” “observed several soiled wiping cloths left on prep areas throughout kitchen,” “observed scoops stored in seasonings—repeat violation,” “observed improper hand washing at sink labeled ‘food wash only’ and observed food debris in hand sink—repeat violation,” and “observed flies throughout kitchen, dining room, and restrooms—repeat violation.”
Two businesses received the second lowest score of 80.
Baymont Inn & Suites (pool), 629 Frontage Road received a score of 80. Inspector’s comments included: “gate must self-close and latch (catches at top),” “emergency phone must be able to dial local 911 system (dial tone, no direct dial or keypad),” “pH< 6.8, adjust to 7.2-7.8 range,” “CYA >> 100 ppm, should be below 90 ppm,” and “shower not working.”
Waffle House #1633, 2794 Riverwatch Parkway, Augusta also received a score of 80. Inspector’s comments included: “observed PIC not able to present employee health agreements,” “observed raw chicken and pork stored side by side uncovered in RIC,” “observed build-up in corners of bulk ice machine—repeat violation,” “observed expired bread with best by dates 7/25/24 and 7/19/24,” “observed unkempt main line with lots of food debris,” and “observed several flies throughout kitchen area and bathrooms.”
Finally, the third lowest score was an 85, and it was received by Executive Inn pool, 1238 Gordon Highway, Augusta. Inspector’s comments included: “maintenance gate unlocked, open at time of inspection, gate relocked at time of inspection (lawn work to be performed.”
