Worst scores in this week’s health inspection

This week’s lowest health inspection score was a 72 earned by the Salvation Army Kitchen, located at 1384 Greene St., in Augusta.

During the inspection, the inspector noticed no certification for food safety management, which resulted in a four-point deduction.

“Observed no food safety certification manager in addition to multiple priority violations, including food safety knowledge,” the report stated.

The inspector also reported finding bacteria on food, resulting in another nine-point reduction to the health score.

“Observed mold-like substance on bread in walk-in-cooler,” the report stated. “All food must be stored in good condition.”

Another four points were deducted from the health score for the inspector noticing unclean kitchen equipment.

“Observed pink buildup inside bulk ice machine,” the report stated.

The establishment lost three more points for utilizing foods past due.

“Observed several food (potato salad, deli ham, deli turkey, bread, and tartar sauce) held past use-by date in walk-in-cooler,” the report stated. “Discard. Monitor use-by dates and discard when appropriate.”

Throughout the inspection, in addition to losing three points for bug activity, the inspector docked another three points for witnessing food improperly stored.

“Observed onions stored on floor in walk-in-cooler,” the report stated. “Observed several dead flies on fly catchers.”

The second lowest score of the week was a 77 given to a Baymont Inn & Suites, located at 629 NW Frontage Road, in Augusta.

The inspector deducted four points for noticing a lack of employee towels.

“Provide soap and single use towels at handwash sink. (Paper towels provided, dishwashing soap was available in kitchen; resupply dispenser),” the report stated.

During the inspection, the inspector deducted another nine points for finding food improperly stored.

“Observed sausages on counter (thawing; some fully frozen, others at room temperature). Yogurt being transferred from display to main cooler left on cart during transfer, put in cooler during inspection,” the report stated.

The inspector found more food items improperly stored, which resulted in another point reduction.

“Store all food and supplies 6″ from floor on approved shelves,” the report stated.

Following the Baymont Inn & Suites inspection, the third lowest score of the week was a 79 given to a Pasches Island Soul Restaurant, located at 307 James Brown Blvd., in Augusta.

The inspector deducted nine points for noticing food stored not according to health code regulations.

“Observed chicken stored next to ready to eat foods on the top shelf in cooler. Observed salmon stored next to cooked foods in cooler,” the report stated.

During the inspection, the inspector deducted another nine points for noticing more food being improperly stored.

“Observed several food cooling at incorrect temperatures (oxtail-149 degrees Fahrenheit, chicken curry-149 degrees Fahrenheit, cabbage-113 degrees Fahrenheit) without time control,” the report stated.

A final three points were docked from the establishment’s health inspection score due to the inspector witnessing food cooling and being reheated.

“Observed curry chicken, cabbage, rice, gravy, and oxtail cooling at room temperature on stove top and steam well,” the report stated. “Chicken and oxtail were reheated to 135 degrees Fahrenheit and cooled in ice bath.”
