Health inspector finds dead bugs throughout food truck

The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, and one restaurant did receive a failing score in their recent health inspection from Aug. 12-16.

Worst scores in this week’s health inspection

Jerk City Truck, at 2147 Eastside Court in Augusta, received a failing score of 68. 

Inspector’s comments included: “observed dead bugs throughout the mobile unit” and “observed buildup inside the RIC’s [reach-in cooler] and RIF’s [reach-in-freezer].”

The inspector also noted the improper storage of food.

“Observed meat patties (51 degrees F) cold held above 41 degrees F,” the inspector wrote. “Observed meat patties and a container of cooked cabbage stored uncovered in the reach-in-cooler.”

Other comments from the inspector pointed out: “observed water leaking all over floor from hand washing sink,” and “observed no cold water at hand washing sink.”

Comfort Inn & Suites pool, at 2121 Noland Connector, in Augusta, received the second lowest score of 76. Inspector’s comments highlighted a broken gate latch and an incorrect pH level.

“pH must be in the 7.2-7.8 range,,” the report stated. “Cyanuric acid must not exceed 90 ppm.”

Finally, the third lowest score was an 80, and it was received by Firehouse Subs, at 2930 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta. 

The inspector observed chemicals not stored in a designated area, dead bugs behind tables and under hand washing sink, and food items with no discard date.

Additional inspector comments included: “observed employee enter main kitchen area and did not wash hands before started working.”
